Subsurface

Subsurface wells are the primary revenue drivers for both oil production and water-injection systems. Scientific Specialties provides comprehensive, in-field evaluations of downhole properties—including rock characterization, pore sizing, and permeability analysis—specifically designed to maximize your asset value.

We design field and testing procedures tailored for both local and remote operational teams, providing technical recommendations alongside targeted training for field operators, engineers, and corporate management.

Core Capabilities

  • Downhole Diagnostics: In-field evaluations, rock characterization, pore sizing, and permeability mapping.
  • Procedure Design: Standardized testing and operational protocols built for both localized and remote site environments.
  • Modelling: Model your facility and process to identify operational bottlenecks.
  • Workforce Training: Technical transfers, operational coaching, and executive briefings for operators, technical staff, and corporate management.

Case Study: Restoring Injection Efficiency (Northern Alberta)

A disposal well in Northern Alberta, Canada, was frequently operating dangerously close to its Maximum Wellhead Injection Pressure (MWHIP).

The Result: This dual approach restored the pore-throat size to nearly 56 microns and achieved a 10-fold reduction in viscosity. Consequently, well injection rates safely surged from 5 m³/day to 58 m³/day.

The Root Cause: Injected debris had restricted the subsurface pore-throat space down to a mean average of 1.33 microns. Compounding the issue, an incompatible surface chemical program had severely increased the fluid viscosity.

The Solution: Scientific Specialties executed a targeted well cleanout and a complete re-evaluation of the chemical program and process changes.

Note: Our goal is to restore injection rates while remaining strictly within regulatory compliance guidelines.
